There are only two things that running gloves should do: keep your hands warm and not make them sweat. Everything else, reflective patterns, conductive fingertips, doesn’t mean anything if they can’t do it.

But it’s not easy to accomplish, because gloves that are lightweight and breathable may not be thick enough at the start of a race, while heavier fabrics can produce unpleasant sticky palms after 20 minutes. Waterproof gloves are avoided more often because it’s almost impossible to find ones that are breathable enough that your hands don’t get as wet from sweat like rain.

So we set out on a simple mission: to find running gloves that keep your hands warm and dry. Here are those gloves.

They’re great for cold morning or afternoon workouts, and they’re great for between seasons when temperatures fluctuate so much. They can also be great winter underlays when used in combination with a thicker glove.

With touchscreen technology, they allow you to adjust your music selection, monitor your training app, text your friends, or take a photo without removing your gloves.

These gloves are designed for independent use in extremely cold climates. If you intend to run in extremely cold conditions, take a look at the Outdoor Research PL400 Sensor Gloves.

Zensah Smart Running Gloves

You know Zensah for his compression stockings and calves, but the company also makes a pair of running gloves.

It’s one of the slimmest we tested and doesn’t do much good when the winds really do start to howl, but it sticks out early in the season or on cold mornings.

The palms are sticky like a tree frog’s legs, so it won’t drop your phone, and the fingers have a wire mesh that works well on touch screens, without the need to repeatedly stab the shutter button in the app camera.

Also, there is a lot of reflectivity on the fingers, which actually looks at cars when you race.

  • Patented 4-way stretch Zensah fabric makes them breathable as well as comfortable

The gloves are made of jacquard fabric and Venetian fabric that keeps them warmer, without being bulky, but still tight and flexible to the shape of your hand.

You don’t need to remove your gloves to use a phone or tablet, as these sensitive touchscreens have long-lasting conductivity on the thumb and index finger.

Along with high-quality stitching for long-lasting use, these Hoomil Gloves winter gloves extend to the wrist to prevent wind and rain from seeping in on those toughest race days.

New Balance Running Gloves

New Balance Unisex Running Gloves are standard running gloves that perform somewhat well in most running conditions. With these gloves, you’ll get a well-fitting, touch-sensitive, moisture-wicking basic garment.

The problem is that the way these gloves are designed, these two characteristics collide. Moisture can be wicked from your finger directly on your touch screen.

These gloves are quite bulky, considering that they are not very warm. The appeal of most of it is that it provides a measure of wind resistance and rain resistance.

Unfortunately, polyester materials make gloves much colder once they’re soaked in rain or sweat. For marathons, these gloves are probably not the right choice.

Pro’s
  • Absorbs moisture
  • Reflective sign
  • Average heat
  • Comfortable wrist tissue joint
Con’s
  • Touchscreen capability collides with moisture absorption
  • No traction
  • Bulky but not resistant to the elements.
  • Not good for people who sweat

They can also be used as a base coat for really cold winter temperatures. With a secure, snug fit, your hands will stay protected from wind, cold and water.

The moisture-wicking technology of the gloves keeps them dry if your hands start to heat up and sweat. You don’t have to bother removing them if you need to use your phone – the conductive fabric on the thumb and index allows you to easily use touchscreen devices.

Reviewers say the Under Armore Liner Glove are stretchy and comfortable, and a great value for a reasonable price. They are available in men’s and women’s versions.

PEARL IZUMI RUNNING GLOVES

Let Pearl Izumi, one of our favourite equipment manufacturers in several categories, give us a glove that makes us seriously think about changing brands. Pearl Izumi designed a high-visibility glove that we like for both running and cycling.

They probably went as far as any of the gloves in terms of thermal capacity, as we liked using these gloves in cold racing and cycling until the age of 30.

The Pearl Glove also provide a nose wipe, and touchscreen compatibility is among the best we’ve ever used. In summary, we are impressed, especially by the reasonable price.
