Society seems to have the wrong perception of the eating disorder anorexia. There have been many jokes that have been made in the media or magazines regarding anorexia. Lets clarify the myths on anorexia.
Top 5 myths about anorexia answered

Myth 1: Skinny = Anorexic

You can be thin or skinny for all sorts of reasons. It may be because you lead an active lifestyle and is constantly on the move. You could be skinny because of a terminal illness, or you are a chain-smoking addict. Therefore being skinny does not mean you are anorexia.

Myth 2: When you are anorexic, you don’t feel hungry.

This myth is totally untrue. Anorexics love eating as much as other normal human beings. The only thing stopping them from doing so is because they have a skewed perception of their body image. The truth is, anorexics are more careful about what they eat. They choose their food according to the calories and fat content of the food.

Myth 3: They look into the mirror and see a fat person.

They don’t, of course. It is just that they are more overtly critical of their body and are able to see flab in places where people’s eye doesn’t catch them.

Myth 4: Individuals with anorexia are just attention seekers.

People do not develop anorexia to seek attention. It is a life-threatening disorder, and those suffering from anorexia should be given positive support and the proper care before this problem worsens. If anything, they become anorexics to just fit in the superficial world that we live in.

Myth 5:  Anorexia is just all in the mind. Nobody dies from it.

Anorexia is a life-threatening disorder.  Anorexics face medical complications such as malnutrition. Their body is just not getting the nutrients that they need. Although anorexics might compensate it by taking vitamin supplements, those vitamins are not enough to fortify your body.

Final Say

Think twice before you start judging anorexics. Educate yourself about this disorder. Be kind and compassionate to these people. Because they deserve all the help that they can get.
