Why Does Keto Work?

With the Keto diet, there is a significant reduction of carbohydrates in your diet.  By the reduction of carbohydrates such as sugar and starches your body  will go into a metabolic state, referred to as ketosis.

During ketosis the body burns fat rather than carbohydrates for energy.  Your body will breakdown the fat into molecules known as Ketones. This essentially burns/removes/oxidising  unwanted fat.

Endogenous ketones are produced by our bodies naturally by maintaining a low carb diet or an empty stomach.  This process is called ketogenesis. When on the Keto Diet (often referred as Ketosis Diet), the body start producing three different ketones, acetone, acetoacetate and in higher concentration the ketone beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB).

BHB as the prominent ketone (technically it is not a ketone) that that starts using the unwanted fat. Scientists have been able to create the BHB from organics

What is BHB?

BHB is more than an alternative energy source.  It is also a signalling molecule that supports and combats a range of life diseases.

There are two forms of BHB, R-BHB and S-BHB.  The S-BHB is a proceeding molecule to R-BHB.

This is an organic compound and is considered as on the “physiological” ketone bodies produced and burned in our cells. 

The most significant way to produce more endogenous BHB is to maintain that nutritional state of ketosis by reducing your intake of carbs.
